Wouldn’t it be great to save a life?

Representatives of the Heart Screens for Teens will be at Brookwood High School in Snellville on Saturday, September 27th. For only $58, you can get an echocardiogram for your teenager. A test of this type usually costs around $900 to $1500 but this group is bringing it to Gwinnett teens for a reduced price.
An echocardiogram is an ultra sound scan of the heart which can reveal the presence of an enlarged heart and other heart abnormalities. Each scan will be taped and analyzed by a pediatric cardiologist. Results will be mailed directly to the parents of each Hamilton Mill teenager who participates. The tests are designed for children aged 11 to 18 and are not just for athletes - any child could experience a problem in gym class.
The screenings at Brookwood High School (1255 Dogwood Road, Snellville, GA) will take place from 8 am to 4 pm September 27th. Those interested in an appointment should contact Gayla Malkiel who is with the Brookwood High PTSA. You can email her at gaylamail@aol.com to arrange an appointment or call her at 770-979-0840.

Hamilton Mill Can Help Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Posted By Brenda Knight on September 2nd, 2008
It’s early to be thinking about the Christmas season - hey, school just started and the first football games are this week. But, it’s never to early to think about helping one of the premier children’s hospitals in the nation and get beautiful Christmas cards as part of the bargain. Hamilton Mill is blessed with so many healthy children and this is just one way we can give back to our community and make sure excellent facilities like CHOA are available when we need them.
The Atlanta area is blessed to have two great children’s hospitals right here in our area that focus on children’s health and welfare. Years ago, we had Egleston Childrens Hospital located in Decatur and also Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital in Atlanta. Recently, both hospitals merged their facilities to create Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. CHOA is a non-profit organization and needs contributions from area residents like those of us in Hamilton Mill and all of Gwinnett County to fund it’s programs and research.
Each year artists from all over Georgia submit Christmas card designs to be considered. Some of the artists are former patients of CHOA. Proceeds from sales of the cards go to Children’s Healthcare various programs with a different focus for each year. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Aflac Cancer Center Research Endowment. Go to http://www.choa.org/default.aspx?id=2124 for more information on how to order the cards.
Hoschton Population Growing Larger Everyday (with the “wrong” Crowd!)

Don’t be surprised if you drive through Hoschton and see lots of townspeople lining the streets. But wait! These people aren’t moving and they’re awfully quiet. Hey, they’re all scarecrows!
The city of Hoschton (located on Highway 53 between Braselton and Winder) has added almost 3000 silent residents in the last few weeks. Organizers of the annual Fall Festival hope to have 4000 scarecrows on display by September 1st throughout the Hoschton zip code. They are trying to break the record held by the Cincinnati Horticultural Society. Check out the Fall Festival Website http://www.hoschtonfallfestival.com/
Take a drive out Braselton Highway from Hamilton Mill this weekend. Turn right at GA 53 in downtown Braselton and before you know it, you’ll be in Hoschton. The city limits sign has several scarecrows to welcome you. Drive around town and also out GA 332 to see all the scarecrows. Then on your way back, if it’s Saturday, you can stop for an ice cream treat at the Mayfield Dairy!!!
